Eat Your Protein. But Also Have Some Fun.

Sometimes wellness starts to feel like a full-time job.

Eat your protein. Drink your water. Get your steps. Take your supplements. Get enough sleep. Don't eat too much sugar. Move your body. Meditate. Breathe.

All of those things matter. But somewhere along the way, wellness became so focused on the checklist that some of the things that actually make us feel good got left off.

Because wellness isn’t just about living a healthy life. It’s about living a life you enjoy.

Here are five things that you should add to your wellness checklist:

1. Good people

When was the last time you sat with a friend and talked for two hours without looking at the clock?

Or laughed so hard you couldn't remember what you were laughing about?

Connection matters. Having people who know you, support you and make you laugh is good for you. Probably better than another green juice.

2. Something to look forward to

A vacation. Dinner with friends. A concert. A weekend away. A lunch date.

Having something on the calendar that you're excited about can make an ordinary week feel a little brighter.

3. Fun

When did having fun become something that has to be squeezed between all of our responsibilities?

Do something because it's enjoyable—not because it's productive or something you should be doing.

Take the trip. Go out to dinner on a Tuesday. Try something new. We're allowed to have fun at every age.

4. Rest without guilt

Sometimes you don't need to accomplish anything. You need to sit down.

Read the book. Take the nap. Spend an afternoon doing absolutely nothing.  Just rest without guilt.

5. Something that's just for you

Not for your kids. Not for your spouse. Not for your job.

For you.

Because wellness isn't about creating the perfect routine. It's about creating a life that feels good to live.

So yes, get your protein. Get your sleep. Move your body. But call your friend. Plan the trip. Laugh until your belly hurts. Do something completely unproductive just because you enjoy it. Those things count, too.
